Rehabilitate and rehome abandoned and abused pit bulls Hello, welcome to my page, and thank you for sharing our love for our pitties.
Here is the start to our story.
During a hard time in my life in 2007, I decided very last minute to get a new dog.
My mom said what about a pit bull, so I agreed.
This is how I came to be the proud owner of my pit bull Mickey.
After joining the US Army to become a medic, my mom and dad watched over my boy.
His pictures were in my locker and kept me going everyday to be the soldier I was.
He was like my child, my drive to make myself better.
After getting married and having our two little girls, Mickey was a huge part of my life.
He loved our girls as much as we did, he was always laying by Ellie's crib as she slept, or watching over her as she lay in the pack in play, while daddy was deployed.
On January 11th, 2014, Mickey, our girls Ellie and baby Abigail, and I were driving home to NC from visiting family in FL.
We were in a terrible car accident where we hydroplaned on the highway and were sent sailing into the trees.
My girls and I were bruised but unhurt, Mickey on the other hand could not say the same.
Let's start here.....hours prior to leaving, Ellie's car seat was always, since birth, on the passenger side of the vehicle, until this moment.
I asked my dad to move it to the driver's side and have Abigail in the middle, so I could lay the passenger seat down for Mickey to lay down (he was a big 90-95 pound boy).
The passenger side of my car was crushed and Mickey was ejected.
I never saw him again.
I got a call at the hospital that he was found dead on the side of the highway.
I asked for his body and I was denied.
We never got to bring our boy home with us, and our daughter Ellie still asks for him to this day and tells everyone he is in Heaven.
If it wasn't for him being in the car, my daughter Ellie could have been severely injured, or worse, not with us anymore.
Heaven is where Mickey is, and instead of turning my pain into hate and anger, I have decided to do something positive with it.
Since I could not do anything to save Mickey, or go search for him, I have decided to save other pit bulls that are in need of help and deserve a second chance.
All in Mickey's memory, this is all for him and all the pibbles out there that deserve a chance, deserve a home, and most importantly, deserve love.
