His Gardener series, Crazychildren, S.F.C.C., Mr. Shoe collection together with his collaboration with Nike, Sony, Diesel and Casio, to name a few had made him a household name in the street art arena and to the crow who appreciates pop culture. Michael’s world of art combines the ideals of music, fashion, pop culture, art, X-sport as well as lifestyle that emerged from the street and beyond. Michael is amongst the rare few vinyl artists that not only creates his own concept art, but actually sculpts and paints his own prototype, down to monitoring every step of his production to ensure his limited vinyl art meets the highest standard of output. Michael’s continual passion to his vinyl art not only won him loyal fans from around the world, his work had also set a milestone to inspire many artists that follows his footstep in the arena. Widely known as the godfather of urban vinyl behind the designer toy movement, Michael is being recognized as the pioneer who had launched the trend starting in the 90’s in the article ’20 Trends Sweeping the Globe’ at the Jan 08 issue of Forbes. Michael is also the first artist/designer from Hong Kong being appointed to design the national team uniform and footwear of China national BMX team for the Olympics game in Beijing, 2008. About the “Gardener” & “Kindergardener” “Gardener” likely the most known series of 12” action figure art was first brought to the world by Lau in 1989 at the Hong Kong Art Centre. Merging his passion to 12” action figures as well as drawing inspirations from the booming street culture then, Michael brought to life 99 characters in the Gardener series on Sept 29th, 1999. The world witnessed the birth of a new form of art and the “Gardener” had since inspired the whole vinyl designer toy movement around the globe. “Gardener” reflects Michael’s ideal lifestyle and attitude.
