Ioannes Paulus'e suikast girişiminin ardından uluslararası kamuoyunda tetikçi olarak anılmaya başlanan Kürt kökenli olduğu iddia edilen Türk suikastçı.HayatıMehmet Ali Ağca Malatya'ya bağlı Güzelyurt(İsmailli), Hekimhan köyünde 1958 yılında doğdu.
Çocukluğu ve gençliğinin bir kısmını Malatya'da geçirdikten sonra ailesi ile birlikte İstanbul'a geldi.
Lise öğreniminin ardından İstanbul Üniversitesi iktisat fakültesinde eğitimine devam etti.
Üniversite yıllarında çeşitli ideolojik gruplarla tanıştı.
Dönemin düşünce akımlarından etkilendi.Abdi İpekçi suikastı1 Şubat 1979'da Milliyet gazetesi başyazarı Abdi İpekçi'ye düzenlenen suikastin tetikçisi olarak, olaydan 5 ay sonra 25 Haziran 1979'da yakalandı.
Polisin ek gözaltı süresi istemesine rağmen, bu talep reddedildi ve Maltepe Askeri Cezaevi'ne kondu.
Zaman Gazetesi'nde Taha Kıvanç müstear adıyla yazan Fehmi Koru'ya göre Abdi İpekçi kendisinin de içinde bulunduğu mason locasından birinin Türkiye'ye yapılan silah kaçakçılığı ile ilgili olduğunu bulmuş, bu yüzden de öldürülmüştü.
