Mccutchenville Fire Departmental

4460 Twp 1072 PO Box 162

Wyandot,

Ohio,United-states - 44844

Detailed description is In 1943, the inception of the McCutchenville “Citizens” Volunteer Fire Department was started.
In 1943, the inception of the McCutchenville “Citizens” Volunteer Fire Department was started.
This was when several individuals from within the McCutchenville Community had many discussions as to the need of a Fire Department.
And soon after, began going door to door seeking donations to begin building a Fire Department.
In time, these individuals collected enough money to refurbish an old gas truck and turn it into a water pumping fire truck.
A building to house the truck and to hold meetings would also need to be built.
So together in 1945, people from the Community gathered and constructed a 16’ x 30’ (single bay) cement block building with a single 10’ x 10’ overhead door, to house this fire truck and meeting place for Firemen.
In doing so, Citizens of the community became members by paying annual dues which funded this new Fire Department.
And a number was given to these members as a way to identify and locate those making a Fire Call.
Hence the name McCutchenville Citizens Volunteer Fire Department was established.
Even Firemen paid dues to become a Fireman!.
Over the years, the need for more equipment led to an expansion onto the cement block building by adding a second bay with another 10’ x 10’ overhead door.
This now doubled the size of their building and allowed the fire truck to be parked in one bay, while an 8’ long wooden table with enough chairs for its members (Firemen) occupied the second.
As time continued, becoming a Fireman now required one to be trained in Fire Suppression.
What started out with Rubber Boots, Coats and a Helmet through time became more sophisticated Turnout Gear.
With evermore regulations being written by Fedaral and State Governments, more Training, Firefighting Equipment and Water was needed.
Eventually a newer Fire Pumper, with better pump and larger water capacity, replaced the old worn out water pumping truck.
And because of the need to have more water readily available to ”Feed” the new pumper, an old Ford Milk Truck was turned into a water Tanker.
And as time went on, so was the need to have a lighter 4 x 4 Fire Truck that could be driven over fields to extinguish Field Fires.
So an International Scout was equipped to fulfill this purpose.
And eventually a boat to rescue victims from water emergencies was also needed.
But with more Equipment required to better serve the McCutchenville and surrounding Community, the need for a larger building to house all of this Equipment was a must.
.
So in 1976, a steel structured metal type building was added onto the rear of this block building.
This 30’ x 60’ addition was the answered prayers.
This now allowed for two additional truck bays and a small area for meetings.
In addition, a kitchen and two restrooms were incorporated into the building.
What a wonderful gift by the Community! This was the new Fire Station.
Now trucks could be pulled out of the station, creating a Community Hall that tables & chairs could be set up to hold fund raisers to help pay for the continued services of the Department.
.
Over time the dues that the citizens and Firemen once paid to be members eventually became a Fire Levy.
And McCutchenville Citizens Volunteer Fire Department became McCutchenville Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.
In 1988 a new 1,000 gallon International Fire Engine replaced the older pumper truck.
In 1993 a new GMC 1-ton Grass Fire Truck replaced the International Scout.
And in 1997 a new 2,000 gallon tanker replaced the old tanker.
A new upgrade in safer Water Rescue Equipment & Trailer replaced the old V-bottom boat.
And soon, a recently purchased 2008 1,250 gallon International Fire Engine/Tanker will replace the 1988 Fire Engine.
.
Over the years, there have been many Fireman as well as Fire Board Members that have passed through the doors of the McCutchenville Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition, there have been ten Fire Chiefs to date.
In all, these individuals have served the amount of time that their lives have allowed throughout the years.
And yet today, many more continue to serve.
This ensures that McCutchenville Volunteer Fire Department continues to be there for their Community Members.
After all, the Volunteer Members of this Department are your Family, Friends and/or Neighbors.
.
Will there be more changes.
Sure there will.
Just look into the past and you will see a lifetime of changes.
But we are still here to help our community.
Especially the people who Call For Help..
