Detailed description is The Marshall family settled land in West Marin in 1852, establishing a dairy on their "Home Ranch" property.
Six generations later...and we're still here! Marshall Home Ranch is managed by Marissa Thornton and her dad, Gary.

Marissa is working to revitalize the family dairy that was sadly shut down in 2001.
She wants to milk a small number of animals and sell the milk to a small, artisan creamery that is already located on the ranch..
Starting a dairy is very capital-intensive, and Marissa needs help buying cows.
She launched a project on Kickstarter called the "Boutique Cow Dairy" campaign, so she can buy 20 cows with the help of people who want to see small, family farms thrive.

This 1,000 acre ranch is home to 350 Angus beef cows, 350 Dorset/Hampshire sheep, 37 free-ranging chickens, 111 East Friesian dairy sheep, and four Livestock Guardian dogs.

We have a creamery on the property owned by Bleating Heart, and beginning March 2014 my sheep dairy will supply the creamery with milk.
I also grow a small plot of malting barley, which I hope to eventually sell to craft brewers..
