Detailed description is 1930: Montcoal & Mt View Schools consolidated into "Marsh Fork High School".
The original building burned March 1943.
In 1944 the MFHS we all knew opened.
It closed after the 2002-03 School Year & burned on Dec.
17, 2005 Montcoal High School opened in 1925 and consolidated with Mountain View High School in 1930 to create "Marsh Fork High School".
"Marsh Fork" is named after the fork in the Coal River at Whitesville near Jarrold's Valley.
The Marsh Fork and the Clear Fork of the Big Coal River merge at this location.
The school was gradually added on to until a fire in March of 1943.
In 1944, a shiny new school was built.
As the years past, MFHS took the former "Montcoal-Stickney Grade School" and used it as an "Annex".
In the 1980's, the "Million Dollar Gym" was built between MFHS & the annex.
In 1993 Clear Fork High School closed and was consolidated between MFHS & Liberty.
In 2003, MFHS was closed forever.
The building burned on December 17, 2005.
In 2012, the students & faculty from Marsh Fork Elementary School voted to change their school colors & mascot when they moved into their new school in 2012 to the "Orange & Black, Marsh Fork Bulldogs", as the only school remaining in the Marsh Fork district.
Also, the Marsh Fork Alumni Association was given permission by the Raleigh County Board of Education to place a park on the site of the Marsh Fork High School.
