The daughter of Grady and Ann Davenport, who ran the Kepler Hotel and Restaurant until 1979, she began "waiting" tables at the tender age of 8, which consisted of bringing guests their drinks and clearing the table after a meal was done.
Her father was the grill cook who received his "culinary training" in the US Navy, and her mother (of Italian descent) made many of the restaurant's daily offerings.
