Mark Williams was born in 1966 and came to Aberystwyth as a student in 1984.
He graduated in politics in 1987 and he worked as Constituency Assistant for Ceredigion’s Liberal Democrat MP, Geraint Howells for five years, and as a Research Assistant for the Liberal Democrat peers in the House of Lords..

This political education gave him a unique insight into both the workings of parliament and the priorities of people in Ceredigion, and the late Lord Geraint continued to be a mentor to and staunch supporter until his death..

After teacher training, he worked in schools in both Cornwall and Devon before becoming Deputy Headteacher at Llangors Primary School near Brecon in 2000.
He has always maintained a deep passion for Ceredigion and its traditions..

He stood for the Welsh Liberal Democrats at the 2000 Ceredigion By-election and helped the party regain second place..
