MARINE CORPS LEAGUE IREDELL COUNTY DETACHMENT #1097.
The 70+ Members of the Iredell County Detachment of the Marine Corps League, Inc., join together in camaraderie and fellowship for the purpose of preserving the traditions and interests of the United States Marine Corps, rendering assistance to all Marines and former Marines and to their widows and orphans, and to promote the common good of our community and nation.
Our Motto is “We served our God, country and now we serve our communities”.
The Detachment was chartered in May 2002 and has been heavily involved in community service..
The Detachment is looking for a “few good men” that are serving or have served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, Marines who are serving or who have served in the Marine Corps Reserve, Naval Medical Personnel who have trained with Fleet Marine Force Units and earned the Marine Corps Device (clasp) worn on Service Ribbon, and persons who earn the Warfare Device authorized for FMF Corpsmen and U.
S.
Navy Chaplains, having earned the FMF Badge, serving with Marines..
Just how does the Detachment assist Marines, veterans and the community? The Detachment provides financial aid to Marines and veterans in need when properly vetted, provide tuition for up to 2 students for Marines or descendant of a Marine at the Mitchell Community College, provide Honor Guards for deceased Marines and veterans as part of the Iredell Veterans Council Honor Guard, provide Honor Guards for community events when requested, in coordination with the United States Marine Corps Reserve the Detachment is the Iredell County focal point for the Toys for Tots program that collects and distributes toys to needy children in Iredell County, provide funding in support of the Marine Corps League Iredell County JROTC competition, present Eagle Scout Certificates for those Iredell County scouts that are promoted to Eagle Scout, support the Iredell Veterans Council Veterans Assistance Program through donations and participation of feeding homeless and needy veterans, provide annual donations to various organizations (Mooresville Soup Kitchen, Charlotte International Airport USO, South Iredell High School Marine JROTC, etc.), provide financial aid/manpower to community projects as requested, and participate in various ceremonies (Memorial Day, 4th of July Parade, Veteran’s Day Parade, etc.)..
As the Detachment looked at the numerous activities, we realize there must be income from somewhere to support all of the activities and we do have one annual fundraiser and a few sponsors that provides the income to support our activities..
As stated earlier, we are looking for a few good men and we do realize that not all Marines, FMF Corpsman and FMF Chaplains have other areas of responsibilities such as jobs and families to raise but if we join in just like we did when we were in the Corps and Navy we can get a lot done together.
The Detachment meets at the American Legion in Troutman, NC on the 4th Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM.
