MANAYUNK got its name from the Lenape Native American word meaning, “place where we drink,” which identified its ideal location at the confluence of the Schuylkill River & the Wissahickon Creek..

During the 1800’s & into the 20th century, Manayunk’s location on the river allowed it to boom in the manufacture & sale of fine textiles.
The building you’re in was once a woolen mill, opened in 1822 by Anne Dawson.
The original antique scale, that was used to weigh the wool brought into the factory, can be found at the entrance of the Manayunk Brewing Company even to this day!.
