On September 24, 1942 The Glenn Miller Orchestra played its last show at the Central Theater in Passaic NJ.
Two weeks later 38 year old Alton Glenn Miller reported for duty with the United States Army..

He went on to form the greatest wartime band that existed and after performing radio shows in the United States, took the group to Europe to play for the boys.
The greatest compliment came from Jimmy Doolittle who said, "Next to a letter from home, Captain Miller, your organization is the greatest morale builder in the ETO.".

Miller was lost in December, 1944 when his plane failed to report into France.
The band continued on without him until the end of the war..
