I am first and foremost someone who loves to tell a story, through words and through images.
I believe that every single person has a story and that story should be told, shared, and honored.
I have been writing and taking photos for as long as I can remember, but photography has definitely become my media of choice the last decade.
Having three children who are growing up much too quickly, I learned that taking photos of them was one of the best ways for me to chronicle their lives and help me to remember their stories along the way.
Scrapbooking those photos and adding the words to them was a catalyst for me to pursue photography in a more concrete way.
I quickly began to see what in a photograph was important, and that the things that weren't were quickly cropped out and discarded.
I think this taught me the most important lesson in preserving a person's story, and it is the basis of how I compose and shoot in my business..

I want to see and feel what a person is like, not merely what they look like, and I want their expressions, their moods, and their true personalities to really show in the images that I produce.
I prefer to shoot in locations that speak to the subject, that will make them comfortable, and that will allow for the most genuine person to shine.
That can be in their own home or at any location that we can find and are allowed to use.
I do have a studio that is always available for those formal shots or when a location just isn't feasible, along with many backgrounds and ideas that will still create wonderful images..
