Detailed description is Situé en pleine nature, à 15 minutes du centre de Strasbourg, Le Moulin de La Wantzenau vous accueille dans un cadre élégant et discret.
Les origines de ce moulin seigneurial remontent au Moyen-Age..

Le bâtiment édifié en 1608 par l'Evêché de Strasbourg est détruit en 1622 lors de la guerre de 30 ans par les bandes de Mansfeld et relevé en 1629..

Un acte de 1773 le décrit comme un moulin à 4 tournants, existant depuis un temps immémorial..

Il appartient alors à Germaine Muets, veuve de André Meng (1728-1762).
Par une suite de mariages, il était passé depuis 1668 de Hans Michel, dit der Müller, à Jean Adolphe Müller, à Jean-Jacques Clauss et André Meng.
La fille de ce dernier épouse l'architecte strasbourgeois Pierre-Valentin Boud'hors.
Le couple, sans avoir lui-même exploité le moulin, y a probablement passé ses dernières années, l'épouse jusqu'en 1827, le mari jusqu'en 1831.On peut déchiffrer le nom des Boud'hors, gravé sur le portique en pierre à l'entrée du jardin..

En 1813, sur une propriété de 2 hectares se dresse le moulin, entouré de la maison d'habitation, d'une grange, d'une buanderie et, sur l'autre rive du Mühlgiessen, d'un fouloir à chanvre.
Une grande cour, un jardin, des prés et des pâturages occupent le reste de la propriété..

L'ensemble des bâtiments, loués à Sébastien Clauss depuis 1854 , est détruit par un incendie en 1868.
Sébatien Clauss rachète alors les décombres et rebâtit le moulin en 1872.
En 1874, une auberge s'ajoute à l'ensemble ..

En 1940, des tirs de l’artillerie allemande, installée à Oberkirch, réduisent le moulin en cendres.
Reconstruit entre 1941 et 1943 par les soins des Allemands, il est exploité par Alfred Clauss jusqu'en 1966 et l'activité de meunerie cesse définitivement en 1970..

En 1951, Charles et Paulette Clauss prennent la succession de Victorine, épouse d'Alfred, qui depuis 1912 avait affirmé la réputation du restaurant.
Philippe Clauss la perpétue aujourd'hui..

En 1981,le moulin est transformé en hôtel.
