Paris, 1876, la Belle Epoque : Alors que le cœur de Paris bat au rythme des théâtres et des grands boulevards où la société mène bon train, Angèle Lancel, femme visionnaire et audacieuse n’ouvre pas uniquement une boutique Passage des Petites Ecuries mais y pose les premières pierres d’une Maison qui sera encore chère aux français 140 ans plus tard..
D’abord dédiée aux articles pour fumeurs, Angèle, curieuse et passionnée, fait rapidement évoluer la boutique vers un concept store avant l’heure ou une clientèle aisée et cosmopolite y achète fume cigarettes , orfèvrerie, bijoux, cadeaux ainsi que les premiers sacs à main.

Rapidement, elle ouvre une autre boutique à Paris mais aussi dans les destinations prisées : Nice, Bordeaux, Nantes...

En 1901, c’est avec le même gout pour l’audace et l’innovation que succède à Angèle son fils Albert, avide de modernité.
Le briquet automatique, mais aussi le Bambino, premier poste de radio portable, la malle Aviona se mettant au service des premiers voyageurs : autant d’inventions qui marquent leur époque et celles à venir.
Et c’est tout naturellement que la Maison Lancel trouve en 1929, à l’Opéra, un écrin à sa mesure, son flagship de conception révolutionnaire ou se croisent Mistinguett, Joséphine Baker, Jean Renoir, Edith Piaf, et que tous les parisiens connaissent depuis.

Dans les années 50, ses adeptes ne sont plus seulement à Paris et Lancel compte alors plus d’une dizaine de boutiques dans les grandes villes françaises et réinvente le voyage en créant la valise en nylon Kangourou, sachant pressentir une fois de plus l’évolution de la société.

Fin des années 70, les deux frères Edgar et Jean Zorbibe donnent une nouvelle dimension internationale à Lancel qui connait dans les années 80 et 90 des succès spectaculaires dont les célèbres bagages rouges Palmyre mis en scène dans de mythiques visuels de campagnes publicitaires et le sac seau ELSA, emblème de la génération des premières working-girls.
