As you may know, Lakeview Disaster Unit (LDU) is a volunteer ambulance agency which provides service to southern Lake County and portions of Modoc County.
We respond to calls as far north as the Christmas Valley Road, east to Denio, NV, and south to SugarLoaf Mountain and west to the county line.
Our operational ASA is 5,876 square miles.
Besides providing emergency medical care, we are responsible for extricating patients from motor vehicle accidents with jaws, air bags and other extrication equipment.
We are also capable of doing some rope rescue work..

LDU has been in existence since the 1950’s and throughout the years many changes have been made.
The first “car of ambulance type” was an old Chevrolet panel outfitted with emergency equipment.
Before that Osely Osterman’s hearse was used to transport patients to Lake District Hospital.
Due to local and federal grants and also the thousands of volunteer hours which past and present members have given, L.D.U.
has became the agency that it is today..

LDU maintains three Medics; the two larger units, Medic 3471 and Medic 3473 are rotated as the first unit out, and the third unit, Medic 3472 is used for back up and mass casualty incidents.
In 2006 we purchased a four wheel drive Rescue Rig, Rescue 3491 to be used for MVC’s, off road transports, fires and other emergency incidents.
We also have a Quick Response Rescue Rig, Rescue 3591, located 30 miles east of Lakeview in Adel..

Our unit runs with a three person crew which includes a driver, an EMT, and a third member.
More than three members are permitted to respond on the ambulance.

LDU Business meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month and trainings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
As a member you are required to attend 6 meetings and or trainings every 6 months to be considered an active member..
