Detailed description is A community bike shop located in Napanee Ontario The L&A Community Bike Shop is a grassroots organization that essentially provides a service to give bikes and maintain bikes for the community.
Our main goals are to deliver bikes to children and young adults that cannot afford them.
We also repair bikes that may require servicing for any clientele.
Our mantra is “Bike it Forward”; all of the bikes that the kids receive from us are repaired, serviced, and refurbished by our bike technicians at no cost to them.
Any bikes that are given to adults we kindly ask for a donation, any service or repair we do for adults bikes we also kindly ask for a donation.
Our shop is set up at the Conservation Park Building .
At the moment we are open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm..

The community bike shop started early this spring as charitable entity, however it has been a concept in place for about three years.
It was initiated by Tyla Vrantsidis who had noticed that many children in the neighbourhood didn’t have bikes, and as you know a bike to a child is not just a toy, but an indispensable tool to adventure and imagination.
She started getting the word out to see if anyone in the neighbourhood had bikes to donate and give out to any of the kids.
Eventually her search led to asking the local Napanee OPP Detachment if they had any unclaimed bikes she could take off their hands for the neighbourhood kids; she knew Constable Jackie Perry at the OPP Detachment, and her request was fulfilled.
Our current fleet are donations from other OPP detachments, and we’ve also received bikes from another community bike shop in Kingston (the two bikes serviced and donated to the L&A Library are originally from the Picton OPP)..

I became involved with Tyla’s initiative serendipitously.
Last summer I was volunteering as a bike technician at a bike rodeo event for children (a bike safety and skills course) that was set up at the SPC Arena in Napanee and sponsored by Greater Napanee Rides and Strides.
Constable Jackie Perry was at the event representing the OPP and mentioned that Tyla had bikes to give away, but many of them required service and maintenance.
Shortly thereafter, I was working out of Tyla’s backyard fixing and maintaining a mountain of bikes surrounded by eager kids either wanting to learn how to fix a bike, or get one..

To date, the shop has put out at least two dozen bikes this year, last year we’ve processed twice as many bikes out of Tyla’s back yard.
With that in mind we are looking for more bike donations as our current fleet is quickly being depleted.
Bike donations can be dropped off at the Napanee OPP Detachment, care of Constable Jackie Perry, or at the bike shop during shop hours.
We are also looking for volunteers, primarily individuals who may be technically inclined, or interested in learning bike mechanic skills.
