Kuzeyinde ve batısında Bergama; doğusunda ve güneyinde Manisa ile çevrelenir.
İlçe Madra ve Yunt dağları arasında yer almaktadır.İlçenin yüzölçümü 436 km²’dir.
2 beldesi (Poyracık ve Yayakent) ve 29 köyü bulunmaktadır.
Nüfusu 2014 yılı itibarıyla 28.072 kişidir.İlçede 38 ilköğretim okulu, 4 orta öğretim kurumu bulunmakta; 4289 öğrencinin eğitim gördüğü bu okullarda 255 öğretmen görev yapmaktadır.
