We are also a Robinson Helicopter Service Center allowing us to order parts and maintenance Robinson Helicopters in the area.
Kiwi Air operates two different type of helicopters: the MD500D turbine helicopters, and the Robinson R44 Raven II..
.
Who we are:.
.
Owners Blake and Samantha Malo, both are commercially rated FAA 135 certified helicopter pilots.
They share a love for animals/wildlife, the outdoors, hiking, hunting, fishing, and of course flying! .
.
Samantha grew up in Colorado, and always had a passion for horses especially, but animals in general.
Right out of high school she attended Colorado State University for Equine Science/Pre Veterinary Medicine.
She worked along side a well known Equine veterinarian out of Longmont, Colorado where she gained tons of knowledge helping doctor horses.
After living in Galena, Illinois for 5 years as a professional horse trainer she went back to school for air traffic control.
She became a fixed wing pilot first learning to fly in the front range of Colorado and then switched to helicopters shortly after.
While she was getting flying lessons at the local airport and working behind the front desk, she met Blake.
Her love for animals never diminished, which makes her passion for working with wildlife even stronger.
Together her and Blake have logged many hours flying together in Colorado, Oregon, Nevada, Texas, Alaska, South Dakota, Wyoming, Minnesota, Washington and Idaho.
.
.
Blake has been flying since he was a young boy.
He was born a pilot and has a multitude of experience.
From capturing wildlife at extreme elevation in sub zero temperatures, to flying an air tour over a volcano, to filming the aerial shots in movies, his experience is endless.
Blake flew air tours in Maui, Hawaii for several years before finding his true passion in the wildlife capture arena.
He is desired as one of the top three capture pilots in the world.
He is highly skilled in precision long line and has taught many other pilots the skill.
With over 10,000 hours in helicopters, his experience is endless.
The sky is truly his playground..
.
This couple together is unstoppable in the aviation industry.
Bringing youth and energy as well as experience to the table, Blake and Samantha have set the bar high.
With a love for wildlife, their company specializes in working with wildlife biologists in the winter months to help study animals such as Moose, Deer, Elk, Wolves, Caribou, Musk Oxen, Pronghorn, Bighorn Sheep, Coyotes, Mountain Goats, to just name a few.
In the summer months, we fly scenic air tours, over the beautiful Hell's Canyon.
Blake and Samantha together are the leading couple in helicopter wildlife capture today.
.
.
Our director of maintenance and the most important person behind the scenes is Mark Stanton.
Not only a highly skilled mechanic, he also is a pilot.
Born in New Zealand, his experience also lead him to Alaska for many years of flying.
Wanting to be closer to his wife, he founded Kiwi Air in 2006 in Clarkston, WA/Lewiston, ID.
With eventually wanting to move back to New Zealand, he sold his company in 2015 to Blake and Samantha.
Mark will be involved as Kiwi Air's Director of Maintenance until New Zealand calls him home.
.
.
More than being just good pilots, at Kiwi Air we strive to make every passenger feel comfortable and safe.
Our pilots are also good tour guides, as they have an ever-expanding knowledge of the area’s history and geography.
.
.
Reliable Helicopters.
.
We fly the state-of-the-art MD500 and the Robinson R44 Raven II helicopters.
The R44 is the world’s top selling helicopter offering reliability, safety, and operating costs that are much less than that of a small turbine helicopter, keeping the tour rates affordable.
For the wildlife capture work we utilize both helicopters.
The R44II for the surveys and captures up to 8,000' and the 5 bladed turbine MD500 for everything else.
.
.
Our helicopters are clean and comfortable.
Everyone has a bubble window seat offering panoramic views of the spectacular scenery that only the northwest has to offer.
We can accommodate three passengers and baggage, cruise at about 100 knots airspeed in the R44 and 130 knots airspeed in the MD500, and travel over 300 miles before having to refuel..
.
Each passenger is also provided a headset, making on-board communication easy and trouble-free.
Our helicopter is also equipped with two cameras on board.
One on the nose of the helicopter, that records a sweeping panoramic view and the other records inside the helicopter of the passengers expressions from the breath taking scenery.
DVD's are available to purchase and sent directly to you.
.
.
Our helicopters are maintained to the highest standard by our on-site, factory trained and certified technician.
Not only does he have years of experience maintaining and rebuilding Robinson Helicopters, he is an experienced pilot as well (over 3,000 hours pilot in command in Robinson helicopters)..
.
Maintenance You Can Trust.
.
Are you looking to have your Robinson helicopter maintained to the highest standard? Kiwi Air is a certified Robinson service center, and Director of Maintenance Mark Stanton is a Certified A&P/IA Mechanic and has been servicing Robinson helicopters, and rebuilding them, since 2003.
He will maintain your aircraft and equipment to the highest standards and will make sure your helicopter and documentation is up to date and in compliance with all Airworthiness Directives, inspections, and appropriate Service Bulletins.
"Having flown in the unforgiving environment of Alaska for six years, I can safely say that I bring valuable flying knowledge and experience to the maintenance hangar.
Through these experiences and others, I have become very familiar with the inner workings of Robinson helicopters -- I know what makes them work more smoothly and efficiently, what oils and maintenance schedule can help you avoid “sticky valves”, and what hundred dollars spent now will help you avoid spending thousands of dollars later."
