Detailed description is In 1974, the Great White House and the half block which it stands on were given to the Kearny County Historical Society by Jennie Rose O'Loughlin, daughter of John and Mary O'Loughlin.
John O'Loughlin was the county's first permanent settler.
The museum complex totals over 20,000 square feet of historical displays and includes the main museum building and annex, the Great White House, an 1893 school house, Santa Fe Depot, 12-sided barn and a machinery building.
Our exhibits showcase clothing, tools, housewares and business equipment used by early settlers to Kearny County.
Visitors will learn about the Santa Fe Trail, railroad history, Indians and much much more.
Our artifacts include an 1831 Conestoga wagon and mastodon tusks unearthed in Kearny County in 1981.
