My husband David and three of our children, Betty, Coleman and Sam (we also have an older married daughter, Bryna) moved to Luther in August 2012 after having spent our whole lives as 'city dwellers'.
We LOVE Luther and in fact have joked that we know more people who live around us out here than we ever knew living in a neighborhood with people living next door!.

Gardening is one of my favorite pastimes and we have a large organic garden, as well as donkeys, cows, chickens, turkeys and ducks on our small farm..

I have a Master's Degree in Biology and spent most of my working years as a high school and middle school public school science teacher.
In fact, though my kids all began their educations in public school, we decided homeschooling best met our needs and began educating all three at home in 2012.
Today, I teach science and math at our Co-Op - while keeping my own kids on task with their studies..

In 2010, a friend and I began an organization called Restore Oklahoma Public Education (ROPE).
Over the years, along with various ROPE Board members, we focused on calling the attention of the public to different ways in which public education affected students and their families.
By 2011, we began to work almost exclusively toward repealing the Common Core State Standards from state law (allowing the state to determine the standards best for Oklahoma students) and in 2014 were grateful to see CCSS repealed.

In 2015, the ROPE board voted to change our name to Reclaim Oklahoma Parent Empowerment, to champion parental efforts and issues, and I 'retired' from lobbying.
Today, I write a personal blog which includes devotionals and insight on various topics in the news, I cover education issues on the ROPE blog as I have time, and write about education policy and politics for several online sources..

Through my years of education activism, I was fortunate to have been able to travel all around the state and throughout the country speaking about education issues.
I loved traveling and speaking - but especially meeting new people.

The one thing I have learned over the past 7-10 years - the thing that has made the biggest impression on me - is that, although we're not always going to agree on every issue, we can discuss any issue civilly in a way that will allow resolution.
It's fine to bring opinions to the table, it's fine to express those opinions (calmly and rationally), but problems are solved when those opinions are heard and respected and measured against an ultimate goal of providing the best outcome for the most number of people involved.
