JDS Custom Baits

San-bernardino,

California,United-states - 92284

Detailed description is My name is James Schneeweis.
I live in Yucca Valley California and recently retired from the United States Marine Corps after 22 years as an infantryman (0341) I am married to the beautiful Dannee Schneeweis, who is my biggest supporter and has inspired and motivated me like no other.
I also have two awesome dogs, Sydney and Ozzie, one awesome cat, Black Momma, two horses, Red and Bones and a 13 lbs.
red tail catfish named Sprig that resides in our living room in a 225 gallon tank.
I currently work at the Fire Arms Dept.
Marine Corps Community Services, Twenty nine Palms California selling guns and ammo in addition to being a full time student at National University, going for a bachelor’s in Business Administration.
I have been actively making swimbaits and other lures for over 12 years..
I’ve been fishing since the age of 6.
Fishing started for me with my dad who engrained the love and passion I have for fishing today.
We fished out of Davey’s Locker in Newport Harbor California.
We used to rent skiffs and fish for spotted bay bass, sand bass and calico bass with the occasional White Sea bass or halibut.
At the age of about 13 we decided we wanted to catch some trout so we received some information from a family friend to fish Irvine Lake, a small lake in southern California.
We were informed that the hot ticket was to troll green roster tails as close to shore as possible at the slowest possible speed.
We ended up catching 7 trout and a couple of crappie.
Needless to say, we were bitten by the trout bug and continued to fish Irvine Lake for many years after.
.
One of our pit stops on the way to Irvine lake was to stop at the Bait Barge, a small tackle shop that was owned by Bill Beckum, an excellent bass fisherman that had many large bass to his credit to include a documented 18 lbs.
11 ounce monster that he caught in January, 1980 from the famed Casitas lake in California.
In Bills tackle shop he had a 400 gallon tank that always had one or two recently caught bass in it.
These huge bass ranged anywhere from 5 to 9 lbs.
and I was always mesmerized by the sheer size of these monster bass and always dreamt that someday I would catch a beast like the ones in his tank.
So at the age of 15 I became very consumed with catching bass and tried to learn everything I could about catching them.
One day while fishing with crawdads, I was very fortunate to hook and land a 6 ½ lbs.
bass.
As a 15 year old kid, catching a big bass like that I was definitely on cloud nine and that pretty much sealed the deal.
I was hooked on bass fishing and haven’t looked back since..
Rolling forward to the age of 30 I had learn much from my years of bass fishing and had caught a good amount of fish between 6 and 11 lbs., the biggest being caught at Lake Castaic on a crawdad with no other than my big bass idle Bill Beckum.
My quest was still to catch the biggest bass that I could and in 2003 I was stationed at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) in San Diego, California as a Marine Drill Instructor.
Knowing I was in the mecca of the big bass fishing world I couldn’t wait to test the waters.
At the first opportunity I was on the water trying to catch a trophy bass.
.
One day I saw a video of a guy catch a 16 lbs.
bass on a rubber trout.
That guy was Butch Brown and he was throwing the Huddleston deluxe.
So, of course I wanted to get a couple of these baits so I too could catch some monster bass.
Once I received my baits I went to a nearby lake that was well known for giant bass that has a trout stocking program.
That body of water is Lake Murray in Southern California just 20 minutes from my front door.
There was definitely a learning curve to these big baits but I finally managed to start catching some good bass and one day in early February I was casting the Huddleston Deluxe from shore when I noticed a trout gray hounding in the water trying escape something big.
I immediately ran over, cast out and hooked and landed a 12 lbs.
monster bass.
That was it; I was hooked on using swimbaits.
I ended up catching many more large bass from Murray to include another big bass just under 12 lbs.
and lost another bass about the same size.
.
I started to make my own swimbaits in 2005 being that it really hurt the pocket book to lose a 35 dollar swimbait.
My swimbaits were crude at first, probably best describe as a piece of wood with eyes with poor swimming action at best.
These days I feel I have a better grasp of making swimbaits concentrating on lure action, durability, realistic profile and paint job.
After retiring from the Marine Corps I really tried to crack the code on my swimbaits and dedicated myself to the pursuit of giant bass with my baits.
In December of 2013, I was running some new proto type trout baits on Perris Lake California, that day I proceeded to catch 5 bass that weighed in at 49lbs.
11oz.
That was a pretty awesome day that I have not matched since.
My baits up to now have accounted for many big bass up to almost 12 lbs.
I hope to constantly improve on my baits and continue to catch more giant bass.
In addition, it really makes me happy to watch friends and family catching big bass on my lures.
I think I get more excited than they do.
One day, God willing I hope to catch a world class bass on one of my lures.
