İzmir Yüksek Teknoloji Enstitüsü, 1992 yılında İzmir'de kurulan, özellikle teknoloji alanlarında yüksek düzeyde araştırma, eğitim-öğretim, üretim, yayın ve danışmanlık yapan bir devlet üniversitesidir.
İYTE'deki tüm bölümlerde eğitim dili %100 İngilizce'dir.TarihçeEnstitü, İzmir Milletvekilleri Işın Çelebi ve Rıfat Serdaroğlu'nun 17 Haziran 1992 tarihinde verdikleri önerge sonucunda, 11 Temmuz 1992'de kuruldu.10 Ekim 1992 tarihinde Basmane'de bulunan Petkim'e ait binada hizmet vermeye başladı.
31 Ekim 1995'de eğitim birimlerinin kullanımına açılmak üzere, Alsancak'ta Türkiye Petrolleri'ne ait ek bir bina kiralandı.İYTE, eğitime ilk olarak 1994-1995 akademik yılında "Bilgisayar Yazılımı" ve "Şehir Tasarımı" yüksek lisans programlarıyla başladı.
Lisans eğitimine ise ilk olarak 1998-1999 akademik yılında 7 bölümde başlandı ve 2014 yılı itibarıyla 10 lisans, 25 yüksek lisans ve 12 doktora programında eğitim ve araştırma faaliyetleri sürdürülmektedir, 6 yüksek lisans ve 2 doktora programı disiplinler arası alandadır.1999 yılında toplam öğrenci sayısı Alsancak'taki binada eğitim sürdürülmesini olanaksız kıldığından, tüm bölümler kampüse taşındı.
2000 yılının sonlarında rektörlüğün de kampüse taşınmasıyla Basmane'deki bina boşaltıldı.
Alsancak'taki bina ise Yabancı Diller Bölümü Hazırlık Okulu olarak tahsis edildi.
2006 yılının sonunda ise Yabancı Diller Bölümü de kampüse taşınmış, böylece İYTE'nin tüm birimleri tek bir kampüste toplandı.
