Detailed description is The Irish Hills Towers are a historical landmark located in southeast Michigan.
They are owned by the the Irish Hills Historical Society.
About the Irish Hills Towers:.
Originally built in 1924, the Towers are a landmark of the area and reminder of the past.
The first Tower was built by the Michigan Observation Company, 50 feet tall and right up to the property line at the peak of the hill.
The second Tower was built by Edward Kelly at a height of 60ft.
Thus began a building competition that ended with the Towers remaining at 64ft.
The competition for the tourist trade had only just begun..
The Towers remained under separate ownership until 1955 when Frank Lamping bought both the second Tower.
He later joined them at the base for the first time, ending the tourist competition..
In the 1960s, the tops of the Towers were removed for an ambitious renovation project.
The project was never completed and the Towers stood topless until 1972 when new, matching tops were crane lifted into place making the Towers look identical for the first time..
The Towers were purchased by Ronald Boglarsky in 1976.
A miniature golf course was added at the base of the Towers in 1987 to attract more visitors, but societal changes were taking its toll on the entire area.
The Irish Hills Towers closed to the public at the end the summer of 2000.
They were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in the spring of 2007.
