O Instituto de Estudos da Complexidade (IEC) é uma Associação Civil sem fins lucrativos, de caráter nacional e internacional, e teve seu momento inaugural em 1998, pela iniciativa de 24 membros fundadores, profissionais oriundos de diferentes campos do conhecimento, a grande maioria deles inseridos em universidades de vários estados brasileiros.
Desde então, o IEC vem contribuindo pela divulgação, difusão e desenvolvimento do Pensamento Complexo através de cursos, eventos e publicações em parceria com universidades do Rio de Janeiro e do Brasil e com o Consulado da França.
