Trais-Horloffer See, je nach Gemarkungszugehörigkeit Nord oder Süd, ist ein aufgelassenes Braunkohlebecken.
Vulkanausbrüche schufen vor 50 bis 60 Millionen Jahren das "schwarze Gold".
Bis Ende 1950 wurde hier Braunkohle bis in 42 Meter Tiefe abgebaut.
Dank der starken Quellen ist aus der Inheidener und Trais-Horloffer Grube ein beachtlicher See von etwa 33,5 ha geworden.
Anfang der 1960er Jahre entstand an den Ufern des Sees allmählich ein Naherholungs- und Wochenendgebiet.
Das von Schilf, Gärten und Pappeln geprägt ist und wegen seines Fischreichtums gerne von Anglern besucht wird..
