The Hundred Acre Wood Farm & Sanctuary is a dream come true.
As a college student at Duke in the seventies, Jim Dykes felt 'called' to farming.
The summer before starting medical school at Duke, he worked on a farm just north of Durham, where he had his first kitchen garden.
Though he practiced medicine for almost 30 years, he never lost sight of his dream to farm..

Jim says that Wendell Berry, whom he began reading in medical school, has inspired him.
He considers farming a healing practice, just like good medicine.
His passion in life is growing food naturally and creating a sustainable and fertile farm.
He retired from medicine to farm full time in 2008..
