In August 2012 I returned from an internship at a peace building organization in the Middle East (Tel Aviv).
It was there that I was introduced to the power of storytelling.
The effect that stories can have in creating a better understanding between people from totally different backgrounds made a huge impression on me and turned out to be life changing.
During my time in Tel Aviv I discovered ''Humans of Tel Aviv.'' The format of the blog spoke to me strongly and so I decided to combine my love of photography with my love of storytelling.
When I returned back to Amsterdam, Humans of Amsterdam was born.

When I started Humans of Amsterdam I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
Without any professional photography experience I started to walk the streets of Amsterdam asking people for their photograph.
I figured ''if I start now, I will learn along the way.''.

Three years have passed and it has been the best experience of my life.
I have taken over a 1000 portraits on the streets of Amsterdam and many have trusted me with their personal stories.
I have gotten to know my own city through its people.
I had multiple exhibitions, a weekly column in Metro Amsterdam and I give photography workshops.
The best part of it all is the community I managed to create.
Without them and their positive and hopeful outlook on the world all of this could have never happened.
