Er verläuft über 128 km durch das Fiordland und den Fiordland-Nationalpark.
Seine Quelle liegt 10 km nördlich von der Nordspitze des Lake Te Anau nahe dem Homer Tunnel.
Er fließt in nördlicher Richtung durch das durch einen Gletscher geformte Hollyford Valley.
