Detailed description is historic preservation Established in 2010, Historic Classical, Inc., is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the memory and legacy of Classical High School in Springfield, MA.
Erected in 1897, the high school first opened as Springfield High School, then changed its name to Central High School, and then, in the late '30s, changed its name once again to Classical High School.
Classical High School was a prestigious high school, earning many state and national honors and graduating many famous individuals, including Theodor Geisel (Dr.
Seuss), Taj Mahal, William Manchester, Adele Addison, and Gwen Ifill.
Classical High School closed in 1986 and was converted to Classical High Condominiums in 1989..

Historic Classical has established a museum of Classical High School artifacts in the former building at 235 State Street in Springfield.
So far, nearly 300 items of memorabilia have been collected.
