Detailed description is Lets skip the "short description" part here and Click "about me" for the stuff you really clicked on this page for, such as "what this gonna cost me?" Life seems to go by day to day, in fast forward.
Really people.
It's true.
Time flies by and we dont even realize how fast its passing, until an image of the past comes to surface, and we visually see the change.
Children change and grow DAILY.
And we are humans, smart beings, yes.
Some of the smartest that breathe oxygen.
But, we get busy, and we focus on things not so important sometimes, and tend to forget some of the things, that mattered most because we take time for granted.
.
When your toddler wraps her hand around your pointer finger to pull you in a direction she wants to go, and you notice those dimples on her little knuckles, make sure you TAKE NOTE so you never forget the innocence of the moment..
But, unless you have a photographic memory, that note you took when suzy was 2, is now replaced with the note from car insurance raising your rates, the only knuckles you see in the dumpster in your brain are yours.
Wrapped tightly around the neck of anyone whom gets too close.
Really Suzy? .
I learned very quickly when my first child was born, how important not relying on mental notes to remember was to me.
I got only one single hour of the rest of my life to cherish my son, before he slipped away.
I not only took notes, but a few photos as well.
The notes I took got all clouded with emotions but the images captured in a photo, remain crystal clear.
Time...standing still.
And 18 years later, amongst my most prized possessions lay those pictures.
.
I LOVE to make time stand still, to capture those little details, like dimples and freckles.
The way the wind wisps a childs hair or the look that daddy has, when he on the side lines cheering his son on to give the game (life) his best.
Moments in time, that would truly fade without photo evidence to bring them back to surface..
.
My obsession to pause life in a photo has opened many doors and opportunities for me to be able to share my passion.
Not just the photos from family reunions or gatherings of sorts, or amongst our close circle of friends, but its kind of grown a whole big bunch, and people kind of expect to find photo journals of my days, and if they were a part of it, they look for the pic, with them in it..
One of my favorite photo ops always is My husband and his brothers of Firemen, Medics and Police and dispatchers working an emergency scene, driven by the desire to serve a community no matter the conditions.
Being privileged enough to be able to capture those extreme moments, has been a blessing times ten over the years.
Many moments not even belonging to ME, are some of my most cherished photos.
I have always shared those images when I can, and its appropriate to do so.
In return I hear constantly about a photo here or there, and thank you's and more thanks.
.
I now work in media, capturing those moments for our entire little community.
Pretty honored to have the opportunity actually.
.
The biggest honor of all is watching my passion, pass thru me to my son.
He was gifted with the ability to pick up a camera and even if hes taking a photo of a pile of rocks, give you an image full of beauty and tranquility.
.
As our natural competitive nature rears its funny head, we continue to challenge one another to capture that moment, in the better way than the other.
This results in some outstanding photography..
And has opened even more doors for us..
As more people view and share images we capture, the more people ask questions about being "hired" for taking pictures.
I would have never thought possible with all of the "pros" out there, that so many would inquire about paying us, but they have.
And I never have an answer.
Its hard for me to place value on something I thoroughly enjoy doing.
.
Let me rephrase this.
It WAS hard for me to do so, until I started seeing my own kid question his value and refuse over and over to accept payment, for providing his talent for others.
It became as clear as day to me that by not valuing my own talent, I am without a doubt teaching him to do the same.
.
I KNOW how hard he works to become better, how much he studies, practices and schools himself on all the things hes great at.
I watch him do it daily.
He is only 14, and IS the IT guy for my household and about every family member we know.
If he cant figure out your device, he WILL research until he can.
.
He is the same way, when he has a camera in his hands.
Along with the god given gift to find beauty in everything, hes an amazing photographer, and I just can't encourage him to be weary of accepting his worth and accepting compensation for all the actual work it really takes to use what god gave him to continue to grow and become better.
.
I have done it, over and over.
Cut my own worth out of the equation, with excuses, I cant call myself a pro.
how can I accept money? I ENJOY this, its fun.
How can I profit off of a good day?.
Then, it shows..the work involved.
A "fun day" shoot, that takes at most an hour or so to make happen, I have at least 3 days of every single free moment I have wrapped up in critiquing, cropping, sorting, editing and storing on a device for someone else to take with them..
One wedding.
A full WEEK of ridiculous worry that im gonna somehow not be prepared or something could go wrong..all the normal feelings when you are preparing for one of the biggest jobs of your life.
Wedding days are looked forward to from childhood.
I dont wanna be the photog that ruined that day!.
then the wedding, a full day of the shutter button clicking and over 2,000 images to have to pick the very best of.
Well, when Nothing really goes wrong on the photographers side of the wedding, and the images captured are certainly fantastic, thats alot of critiquing and double guessing and a whole bunch of pictures left to crop and edit.
in the end, nearly 1,000 stunning shots of a picture perfect wedding.
.
The wedding opened my eyes to the amount of time involved in shooting for others.
I had a full week in those photos.
I was SO consumed in perfect edits for the newly weds, I didnt even think of picking up my camera and pausing time in my own life.
That, is worth something..
My kid.
Is worth something..
After researching "average cost" for similar types of photo adventures, I came to the conclusion I still have worth issues.
.
.
Wedding on average...2,500.00 to 4,500.00 and if you want a video slide add 50.00 t0 100.00.
.
Seniors- 700.00-1,000 .
.
hourly rates were around 85 dollars to the moon..
.
All of which seemed to have limits.
time limits, limits of people allowed in photos and number of printable files that were offered.
.
.
Even photogs that don't offer Prints, rather a cd or something containing the image files for the customer to print themselves had limits on the number of pictures, and limited rights to the images.
I see the rights thing, IF you alter a photo to make it completely different than the one you took with the camera.
you have then, made that picture yours, by changing its natural state.
.
.
It all seems to get complicated when it comes to the dotted lines with most of the examples I used to gather a fair price from.
Truth, I wouldnt afford a 4500 dollar wedding shoot, even if make up came with it..
id never spend money on a shoot I only got a disk with only a couple of images on it.
.
.
I choked on my SD card as I read more and more.
.
Many of the quotes I read on high dollar pages were that if you hire someone like "me" you are giving up all quality and should expect nothing.
.
Or you get what you pay for.
cheap rates, cheap pics..
(I agree, to a point.
Some have tens of thousands invested in equipment, I do not).
.
I came to the conclusion, there is only one thing certain.
I still dont have all of the answers in life, but I can take some pretty impressive photos.
.
Most importantly, my kids are watching me, and absorbing more of all that is heather than I realized.
It's time for me to "mom" up and lead an example I can be proud of.
.
I can not sit back and watch my son be such a giver, he is uncomfortable taking, even what he has fairly earned.
.
.
And he doesnt have to take advantage of someone being willing to pay him for a service and be greedy to do so.
