O Grupo Cultural AfroReggae já nasceu pensando em transformar vidas através da arte, cultura e educação.
Fundada no dia 21 de janeiro de 1993, para mudar a realidade de jovens moradores de favela, a instituição surgiu da união de pessoas simples com grandes sonhos.
E foi com um jornal criado por eles que tudo começou.
O "AfroReggae Notícias", publicação distribuída gratuitamente, estampava em suas páginas cultura negra e o cotidiano da favela para dar voz aqueles calados pela opressão da pobreza e do preconceito.
Logo, mais pessoas passaram a debater aquelas pautas e foi assim que surgiu o AfroReggae.
O marco de fundação da ONG é a data de lançamento da edição zero do jornal..

Em agosto do mesmo ano, uma chacina tirou a vida de 21 inocentes em Vigário Geral.
Um mês depois, os produtores do "AfroReggae Notícias" decidiram fazer sua parte para construir elos na cidade partida.
Assim, eles levaram para oficinas de percussão, capoeira, reciclagem de lixo e dança afro..

22 anos e muitos projetos depois, a vocação para transformar vidas continua a mesma, só que agora mais gente acredita no que acreditamos.

Por isso, foi possível criar projetos como a agência de empregos Segunda Chance, a única de ex-presidiários para ex-presidiários, o Tá no Mapa, que está mapeando as favelas cariocas e o Além do Arco-Íris, iniciativa para defender os direitos de travestis e transexuais.

Além da sede na Lapa, próximo ao Centro da cidade, temos um escritório de representação em São Paulo e mantemos quatro espaços culturais em Vigário Geral, Parada de Lucas, Cantagalo e Caju para oferecer cursos de música, dança e teatro para todas as idades.
