From the mountains of Wales to the prairies of North America: Welsh Immigration to the Plains.

The Centre.

The Centre was purchased in December 2003 by GPWHP after a capital campaign raised the money necessary for purchase.
The building is the original site for Kohlmeyer's Hatchery built approximately in the 1940's.
The building itself brings fond memories for those who have lived in Wymore, Nebraska.

We are located right in downtown Wymore - 307 South 7th Street..

Inside the Centre consists of an office, gift shop filled with wonderful Welsh items, oral history room, digital theatre/auditorium, exhibits room, kitchen, two handicap accessible restrooms and storage area..
.
The Centre is used to interpret the story of the Welsh-Americans and the early Welsh settlers of the Great Plains through interactive displays, artifacts and oral histories.
Many events are also hosted here.
They include programs during the annual Sam Wymore Day's celebration, celebration of St.
Dwynwen's Day, Welsh Festivals, hosting Community Coffees throughout the year, educational opportunities and much, much more..

Also owned by the group is a lot to the north of the building.
This is the area for the Welsh garden and sitting area.
The garden is now a reality thanks to the Martha & Margaret Thomas Foundation of Wymore, the Beatrice Gage County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Norris Public Power Goodwill Fund, and by individual memorial gifts from Lois Taylor of Abilene, Texas; Lori and Cathy Williams; the Forrest 'Bud' Roberts Family of Wymore and an anonymous donor of Wymore.
An 80' mural was painted by muralist David Lowenstein of Kansas, a sprinkler system has been put in, planting has started, a beautiful iron picket fence has been put around the garden area and a fund drive for a brick walkway has begun..

If you wish to visit the centre it is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day every Sunday from 2-5pm.
