Young The Friendly Tabernacle was organized in March 1952.
The first meeting was held in a milk house on McBride Road owned by Squire Dickerson.
The first Pastor was Rev.
Ray Blackwelder.
Squire Dickerson donated land to build a church and the first service in the new building was held on August 17, 1952.
The church had 78 charter members.
Rev.
Blackwelder resigned in early summer of 1953.
In July1953, Rev.
Roby Wilcox of Elkin, NC, was asked to be interim Pastor until the congregation could find a Pastor.
In October, 1953, Rev.
Roby Wilcox was elected Pastor.
Rev.
Roby Wilcox held the position of Pastor for 47 years until he retired in September of 2000.
Rev.
Walter Spencer served as Pastor from October 2000 - April 30, 2012.
Rev.
Josh Holder served as interim Pastor from September 7, 2012 - February 3, 2013.
Rev.
J.L.
Young was selected to serve as Interim Pastor beginning May 5, 2013.
Rev.
J.L.
Young was elected to serve as Pastor on August 25, 2013.
Over the years, several people from this congregation who have accepted the call into the ministry and went on to start other churches that still exist in the area today.
