Although the campus is located within the suburb of Curl Curl, the school takes the name from the nearby beach of Freshwater.The campus occupies the site former Freshwater High School.
Freshwater High School was a co-educational year 7-12 school which was formed from the former Manly Boys' and Manly Girls' High Schools in 1983 on the girls' school site.The campus was first used in its current role in Term 2 of 2003, while still under construction.
At that time students of the newly formed campus moved from the previous Beacon Hill High School site.Freshwater has an enrolment of around 550 and has around 50 teaching staff.
