Services are provided to students with physical, psychological and learning disabilities through the Folsom Lake College's Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSP&S).

Diagnostic assessment of learning disabilities (limited service) ..
Accommodations and support services are based on the functional limitation of the student's disability and how the limitation impacts learning in the classroom.
Typical services provided include: priority registration, extended time on tests in a quiet room, tutorial assistance, sign language interpreters, books on tape and MP3 compact disks, note-takers, CCTV monitor/enlarger, assistive computer technology, campus orientation, academic and disability-related counseling, learning disability assessment and study strategy assistance..

First Appointment (Intake).
.
The "intake" process is the first step to becoming part of the DSPS program.
This initial appointment is an hour long.
During this appointment you will meet with one of our DSPS counselors and they will review your medical verification and go over what accommodations you will be able to receive while you are a student at Folsom Lake College..

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:.
.
The counselor will need to see medical verification of your disability.
You can print out one of the medical verification forms we have on our website and have your doctor fill that out then bring it to the appointment.
Other options include: IEP and Psycho Education Report from High School, other documents from your medical doctor, psychologist, psychiatrist, or hospital that describe your disability and diagnosis, Learning Disability testing results, etc.

Letters of Accommodation (LOA'S).

LOA's are letters that the DSPS staff produces for every student to give to professors of their classes.
It is the student's responsibility to deliver these letters to each of their instructors.
These letters will notify the instructors of the accommodations that the student receives (i.e.
extra time on testing, note taker, tape recorder, etc.) The disabikty is not disclosed on these forms..

SET-UP & SCHEDULING:.
.
Student should call the DSPS office 1-2 weeks prior to the beginning of each semester that they are attending to schedule an appointment to receive the letters of accommodations.
This appointment should only take 15-20 minutes and is facilitated by the student personnel assistant..
.
It is important call or come and check-in with DSPS staff, even if the student feels like they will not need some of their accommodations for the semester.
This will insure that you do not lose priority registration..

Test Proctoring.
.
SET-UP & SCHEDULING:.

Student must have a Letter of Accommodation from the DSPS office for each individual class.
This letter stipulates authorized accommodations, including extra time on tests in a "distraction reduced setting." The student presents the letter to the instructor..

Student must inform the DSPS office of scheduled tests as soon as the instructor announces it (if printed in the class syllabus) or at least 5-7 days in advance..

PLEASE NOTE: IF THE TIME OF THE TEST DOES NOT CORRELATE WITH THE TIME STAFF OR SPACE IS AVAILABLE FOR PROCTORING, DSPS STAFF AND STUDENT WILL NOTIFY THE INSTRUCTOR AND SEEK APPROVAL TO ARRANGE ANOTHER TIME/DATE FOR PROCTORING..

PROCTORING:.

Student leaves all books, bags, cell phones, etc.
with DSPS staff, unless instructor has indicated on the proctoring request form that the student is allowed their books, notes, or calculator..
While test is being administered DSPS Staff will check in on student, if the student is not in direct line-of-sight of thestaff..
DSPS staff returns test to the instructor via inter-campus mail unless the instructor indicates otherwise, or makes other arrangements.
