Newly renovated in 2011 and back in the race circuit.
Flying Cloud was build in 1932 on Tilghman Island by the legendary boat builder John B.
Harrison for A.
Johnson Grimes of Easton, MD.
From 1932 until WWII, she was actively raced on the Eastern Shore.
In the late 1940's, she was retired from racing and converted by her owner Dr.
James Thompson of Cambridge into a day sailor.
Eventually she was sold to marine artist John Noble of Staten Island, NY, where she continued as a day sailor..
In 1976 Flying Cloud was returned to the Chesapeake Bay by Noble's sons Allan and John.

After eleven years of extensive renovations by Dave McQuay (replacement of three main logs with new wood, re-fastening pretty much everything, newly designed and installed “go-fast" centerboard and centerboard case, cold-molded and fiber glassed bottom and sides), Flying Cloud's crew wasted no time and began breaking stuff immediately in 2011, a tradition honored through each subsequent season.

In 2014 Flying Cloud was donated by the Nobles to the Chesapeake Maritime Museum where is is currently housed as a living exhibit..
