Detailed description is Wells County Five Points School house is a two story school built in 1876.
It is located next to 5300 W.
1100 S.
-90 Montpelier, IN.
The original Five Points School was a log structure located closer to 1100S.
The school, Chester Township's No.
9, was on the J.D.
Goodin farm.
It was called Five Points because of its location near the intersection of five roads..

In 1876, the Goodins and the Spauldings each donated a half acre for the school.
Their intentions was for a two story building to house a school on the first floor and a meeting place for the Farmers' Grange #522 on the second.
Five Points School was the first brick school house in Wells county and the only brick two story one-room school in Indiana..

The school remained in operation until the new Chester Township School was built 1923.
It was opened briefly in 1926 when the McIntire School burned, and again in 1936 and 1937 during the construction of the Jackson Township School.
After then, the school was used to raise farm animals for many years.
The bell tower, out houses, and well pump were destroyed.
The roof was heavily damaged by the Palm Sunday tornado in 1965..

In April of 1996, neighbors Jack Pace and Kenny Meyer,began to consider the possibility of restoring the school house.The owners of the Five Points School building and property, Joe and Mary Gilbert agreed to sell the land if the neighbors could get a group interested in the project.
The community response was overwhelming.
In June 1997, the Gilberts generously donated the building and one acre of land to the Friends of Five Points School, Inc.
