The Festival of Cultures is one of the longest-standing community events in Palmerston North.
This year, we promise it will be even more exciting and vibrant.
It’s our chance to celebrate art, culture and lifestyle, and explore their connections to each other and our local community.

A pre-festival programme starts on Monday 27 February.
The main three day event starts on Friday 3 March..
Details of the main three day event which offers a variety of activities, from delicious cultural food to the authentic sounds of cultural music, will soon be released..
Lantern Parade – Friday 3 March – The Square.
All ages will enjoy the visual feast of light and colour offered at the opening event, the Community Cultural Lantern Parade.
This year it marks the “Year of the Rooster”.
It all takes place Friday 3 March at 7pm..
There are varying beliefs about the origin of lantern festivals; however, we believe they are about celebrating and cultivating positive relationships between people, families and nature.

This year’s lantern (the Rooster) will be made by the talented team of Jim and Bridget from REACT (Rangiwahia Environmental Arts Centre Trust).

We encourage the community to make and bring their own lanterns of any shape or size to the parade.
Lantern workshops will run from 14 – 28 February where you can create your own lantern under the instruction of Jim, Bridget and their team.

World Food, Craft and Music Fair – Saturday 4 March – The Square.
This is your opportunity to see, hear and taste the world in one day.
The fair is fully accessible to all of our community and offers free entertainment, food and craft stalls.
It all takes happens in the events quadrant of The Square between 10am & 4pm..
Cultural Fashion Parade – Sunday 5 March.
Sunday 5 March is the completion of the Festival with a Cultural Fashion Parade organised and presented by the Manawatu Multicultural Centre.
