Detailed description is Der Fernmeldeturm Großer Feldberg auf dem Großen Feldberg im Taunus (Hochtaunus) – nahe Ober- bzw.
Niederreifenberg im Gemeindegebiet von Schmitten im hessischen Hochtaunuskreis – ist Teil der Sendeanlagen auf dem Großen Feldberg.GeschichteBauVon Februar bis Oktober 1937 wurde auf dem Großen Feldberg ein 53 m hoher Fernmeldeturm mit 16 Stockwerken aus einem Stahlbetonunterbau und einem Holzaufbau, nebst Nebengebäuden errichtet.
Er sollte als Fernsehsender dienen.
Nachdem 1939 hierfür der Tonsender installiert war, wurde nach Kriegsbeginn der Bildsender nicht mehr installiert.Zweiter WeltkriegIm Herbst 1940 wurde schließlich auch der Tonsender entfernt.
Gegen Kriegsende wurde ein Störsender installiert, der den Funkverkehr der feindlichen Flugzeuge unterbinden sollte.
Am 8.
März 1945 wurde der Fernmeldeturm neben dem Feldberghof durch Bombenangriffe größtenteils zerstört.NachkriegszeitNach Kriegsende wurde die Turmruine von den amerikanischen Streitkräften beschlagnahmt und im Rahmen des Richtfunks genutzt.
1947 zogen die amerikanischen Streitkräfte vom Großen Feldberg ab und die Deutsche Post übernahm daraufhin die Ruine.
1948 entstand im noch stehenden Sockel die zentrale Richtfunkstation für das drahtlose Fernsprechnetz in den westlichen Besatzungszonen.
