Detailed description is Perry County Schools are working to bridge the gap between students, healthy food, and Kentucky farmers to support healthy students and a strong community.
The community-wide coalition of volunteers, the Perry County Farm to School Task Force, have spent the past year working on ways to connect students at all 10 Perry County Schools to fresh, Kentucky-grown food and encourage healthy eating habits.
After being awarded the 2013-2014 USDA Planning Grant, Farm to School was able to implement projects to focus on local food and nutrition education in the "3 C's" of Farm to Schools: Cafeteria, Classroom, and Community.
With these focus points in mind, we have had farm field days, in-class food/nutrition education, Kentucky-grown food in the cafeterias, and are starting to plan outdoor&hydroponic gardens at Perry County Schools!.

The next step is to apply for the 2015-2016 USDA Implementation Grant, but we will not lose our momentum until then.
Perry County Schools is currently spending 13% of food dollars on Kentucky-grown products, ranking us 7th in the state as of 2014! .
