Detailed description is The Family Resource Center offers a wide variety of workshops and services to members of the community and Fair Haven School. . . COMPUTER CLASS: This course is offered Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. There are 6 classes that are offered 2 times a year to all parents of children ages 0-4. The object of this course is to enhance your computer abilities in order to help your child learn in a new way. The training course teaches you about this very important tool to help you and your family not only improve your child's education but also to become more engaged in it. After completing this course you will not only be familiar with your computer but also be aware of the advantages it has to offer. . . PLAY GROUP: We offer a play group for children ages 0-3 years old on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. It is a great way for small children to learn all important socialization and sharing skills. The program uses hands on learning practices in order to teach children numbers, shapes and colors as well as gauge and expand on their fine motor skills. We implement specific activities in order to help with social, physical, and emotional development. As well as help with pronunciation of their name, using both hands, temperament control and attitude adjustment. . . . READING GROUP: This program is offered on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for children ages 3-4 years old. The Reading Group allows mother and child to connect and engage through the use of literature. The program focuses on teaching letters of the alphabet as well as attentive skills. Each day a certain subject, topic, or letter is focused on in order to ensure maximum efficiency within the learning process. After each reading session the children are then asked questions pertaining to the book to "quiz" them on what they have learned. . . CFAL DIGITAL LITERACY - Concepts for Adaptive Learning: We offer The CFAL Digital literacy program on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. It is a way to help parents and potential child care providers learn the best and most proficient ways to teach children ages 0-5. It enables you to understand what to expect at different ages and stages. As well as sensible ways to motivate learning and education in children ages 0-5. It teaches you how to utilize the maximum time reading, how to find the right moment to teach and what to do when it's time to turn off the T.V. . . ENGLISH CLASS: The English Class is offered on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for parents of children ages 0-4. This class helps our Spanish speaking parents to learn, understand and speak english. It is important for them to understand the basics of english in order for them to be capable of communicating with their doctors, principals, and teachers. These basics ensure that the parents are able to ask for exactly what they need when they need it. . . CIRCLE OF SECURITY: This program is offered Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for all parents. The Circle of Security is a program designed for parents to understand their children and their feelings. It ensures that the parents have the information to understand what their child is saying, how they are feeling and draw a correct response based on what their child is displaying. The program teaches the importance of understanding your child and how this understanding plays an important role in the child's development and overall growth. . . NUTRITION CLASS: This course is offered on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to parents of children 0-4. The Nutrition class is a course designed to inform parents of the importance of proper nutrition and how it relates to a healthy lifestyle for themselves and their children. The Class covers all the major food groups, proper portions of each food and the best times to serve each portion. This information is imperative for the parents to understand that their child's nutrition affects their abilities to learn and focus in school. As well as how it affects their child's growth and development.. . ARTS AND CRAFTS: This program is offered on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. for parents of children ages 0-4. The Arts and Crafts program teaches basic art techniques. We offer classes for crocheting, mask making, basket weaving, collages, sewing, jewelry making, and knitting. As well as hands on lessons for the parents and children that include finger painting, play dough creations, and friendship bracelet making. This program serves as a creative outlet for both the parents and the children. It allows them to express themselves on a creative level while simultaneously teaching them basic art skills. . . AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM: The After school Program is offered Tuesday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. we cater to 45 students ranging in age from 5-7 years old. All under the supervision of the Family Program coordinator and volunteers from The Sound School, Wilbur cross High School, Career Regional High School and the students from Yale University. The main focus of the program is to ensure that the children do their homework as well as to reinforce what they have learned using reading, writing, and math. We also provide some recreational activities which include sports and music. . . SUMMER PROGRAM: This program is in the month of July it runs from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and is for children ages 4-7. The program caters to approximately 40 children under the supervision of 3 teachers, 2 volunteers, the Family Program coordinator, and the Family Program supervisor. During this time the children participate in educational and recreational activities such as: sports, dance, music, art classes, literacy development, science activities, and health/nutrition workshops. Through these hands on activities students will enrich their academic skills. . . MATH CLASS: The Math class is offered on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. to the parents of children ages 7 to 13 years old. This course is offered to parents in order for them to better understand their child's homework. The Math program is to ensure that all children who go home and have a hard time with their math can seek the help and guidance from their parents that they need. It offers parents the chance to learn exactly what their child is learning in class and then be able to apply learning techniques to their child in the home environment thus reinforcing their lessons from the school that day and simultaneously helping them with their homework. .
