Essential oils are not regulated; and, therefore, there are many oils out there being sold as "pure" that are dubious at best.
The quality differences are similar to those between organic lettuce and organic toaster pastries.

So why am I going on about the FDA and product labeling? Because, when it comes to essential oils, many times you simply cannot judge their purity and effectiveness based solely on product labels.
They are misleading, and you must do your homework.
Unfortunately, even brands sold at many "health stores" cannot be relied upon.
If you ever see the words "certified essential oils", or something similar, on a label, put the product back immediately! There is NO certifying body for EOs; that is just marketing hype to make you feel like you're getting "the real deal".
Many oil companies have warnings on their products that they should not be ingested.
That is not due to the actual pure components of the oils, but rather the chemical fillers added during their distillation process.
Most, but not all, truly therapeutic-grade EOs can be ingested safely.
When cheaper, non-EOs are added during production, not only do they dilute the potency of the product, but they also go rancid much sooner than the EO, ruining the entire bottle MUCH sooner than it would have lasted without the filler oils.
A truly pure oil can remain potent for a VERY long time, given that it is stored in a dark glass bottle.
Light causes EOs to go rancid prematurely, and glass bottles won't leach chemicals into your oils.
Beware of oils packaged in clear glass or plastic bottles; both defeat the purpose going through all the effort to find a high quality oil.
