My name is Ashley Hubbard.
I am a homeschool mom, a musician, a photographer, and a music teacher...among other things.
I teach piano and voice students and encourage them to use their creativity and prepare them for music at a college level and beyond.

My Credentials: The first thing many people want to know is...
why are you qualified to teach my child? I started playing piano when I was four, and played through college.
I started voice lessons a little later at age 9.
I have given piano and voice lessons for five years, and have enjoyed watching my students learn more and more, all the while tweaking my teaching method to make it more fun and interesting for the students.
I was a vocal performance major at Union University in Jackson, TN, until I transferred to EIU music department to major in the same.
Both have very strong, knowledgable, nurturing music faculty.
I toured all around the country performing vocally, until I settled down to raise my family.
I have worked with children as a preschool teacher for several years (not sure exactly how many...I've lost track! LOL) and I am also raising a 9 year old, 6 year old, and 3 year old.
I love working with children and I enjoy teaching them even more..

Why only $10?: The answer to this is pretty simple.
While a lot of music teachers charge anywhere from $15 to $50 and beyond depending on experience, my situation is different.
I am a full time photographer at Fiore Photography Studio (www.facebook.com/fiorephotographystudio) and I teach music lessons for fun.
I enjoy teaching and I love getting to know the students.
It is a true joy for me to give lessons.
So, while I could justify charging much more based on my experience, it just isn't about the money for me..

What Will My Child Learn?: Whether you child is interested in piano or voice, they will learn how to read music, perform in front of an audience, memorize music, write their own music, as well as technique.
As they advance, they will learn improvisation and about music history.
Voice students also are taught the International Phonetic Alphabet used in vocal music to help singers learn songs in other languages.

Expectations: I have a point system that I created to give students motivation to practice outside of their lessons.
They earn points for practicing, memorizing their songs and/or playing them perfectly, good flashcard recognition, and worksheets.
At the end of the month, if they've reached their point goal, they will receive a reward..

Recitals: Recitals are organized 2 times a year.
They provide children with an "end goal" to reach for (knowing they have a performance coming up), and give them the experience of performing in front of an audience.
This helps their motivation and overall confidence, not to mention public speaking skills.

Music helps children in all aspects of life.
Children who actively learn music tend to have less trouble in school, have high GPA's, are more confident, have an easier time learning foreign language and understand complex concepts more easily.
Music lessons are easily looked over because it isn't a "priority" with all of the many, many activities available for children today, but it is not something you want your child to miss out on..
