Montessori & Grade School has over 100 students ranging from 18 months to 12 years of age.
The school was founded in 1973 by Anne Christensen Pollitzer and a handful of concerned parents who wanted an alternative educational program for their children and was named after Mrs.
Pollitzer's mother, Eleanor Christensen, who was an educator in Beaufort schools from 1952-1964.
In 1981, the name of the school was changed to E.C.
Montessori to reflect the emphasis on Dr.
Maria Montessori's learning methods.
