Detailed description is East Burke began as a prayer meeting at the home of .
Mr.
& Mrs.
Dewey Mobley on January 11, 1973.
This meeting was a vision of Rev.
Yonce Lively with the help of Rev.
Gerald Harper.
Interest grew and on March 15, 1973 we became known as East Burke Missions with Rev.
Charles Lavender, Pastor.
Eventually plans were made to finance a building.
Mr.
Sam Jenkins offered to provide the finances needed for the building and Mr.
& Mrs.
Dewey Mobley donated the land on which the church was to be built.
The building of the church started on July 4, 1973 with contractor, Frank Wilson.
Dedication of the church was on August 12, 1973 and worship services began on August 13, 1973.
At that time East Burke Baptist was admitted to the Hephzibah Baptist Association with 25 members.
Rev.
Yonce Lively became pastor on February 7, 1974.
Rev.
Lively was a very loyal and dedicated pastor to his flock.
He served in the pulpit even in his sickest days after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
He was faithful to God and to his church family until the very end.
Rev.
Lively became aware that a new pastor was indeed needed after he was hospitalized and knew that he was too ill to serve his congregation any longer.
He asked, Ethel Watkins to form a pastor search committee.
He remained pastor there until his death in December of 2008.
Rev.
Raymond Trent served East Burke Baptist for a about a year as interim pastor after the passing of Rev.
Lively.
Rev.
Yonce Lively served as pastor for over 30 years until his death.
Rev.
Ernest Johnson currently is serving as pastor.
