Detailed description is The AGING RESEARCH CONSORTIUM strives to increase the quality of life as we age through collaborative research and teaching efforts and community outreach.
Aging is becoming a major factor in our society.
By 2017, it is predicted that Medicare will have run out and by 2047 there will no longer be Social Security.
This is due, in part, to the increase in the number of people over the age of 65.
The percentage of people 65 and older is currently 12.8% and is expected in to increase to 20% by 2030.
Also, the number of people 85 and older is projected to increase from 1.8% to 4.3%.
The significance of this increase in the aged population, along with the extinguishing of Medicare and Social Security, are that health care costs will rise as will the incidence in age-related diseases.
The AGING RESEARCH CONSORTIUM strives to increase the quality of life as we age through collaborative research and teaching efforts and community outreach.
We believe that current treatments and support available to these populations do not adequately address the person as a whole or in a multidisciplinary way.
