Ans: Duke was a true champion who was sick the last 6-7 months of his life. He had congestive heart disease that was diagnosed in Aug 2010. The doctors gave him 2-3 months to live. In September we started his FB page to help the family deal with his illness and maybe gain some knowledge and support from others. Within 3 days he had 5,000 friends and in a month he had over 10,000 friends on his second fan page. The support kept him and his family hopeful. The meds were working, spirits were high and he fought everyday to keep his heart beating. His spirit and fight inspired us to give more of ourselves everyday. So, out of this connection to thousands of strangers who prayed, cried and cheered for Duke we continued to try and help others using his 17,000 friends on his two FB pages.
Unfortunately on March 4th 2011, Duke lost his fight with Heart disease. In the end he went peacefully and was able to spend one last night with his family before he went. Just like Duke, his tail was wagging and he was licking anyone who would come near. He was a fighter and a kind soul. He was our champion.
His mission is to bring awareness of issues and needs of other fourleggers who can't speak for themselves. The Duke Nation is a group of animal lovers that support others in need. They are the inspiration that drives us everyday.
We will keep his pages alive and continue to spread the word and use The Duke Nation for good. I hope you stay with us. The animal community is truly special and giving.
Duke has joined forces with Save-An-Angel.org to raise money and resources to help them with their cause of fighting canine cancer. Their efforts save lives. Please support them and our fund raising efforts.
God bless you and God bless Duke!!
