Detailed description is Duck Woods Country Club is the only full service country club on the Outer Banks situated on 300 acres of maritime forest in heart of Southern Shores.
Duck Woods Country Club began in the mid-60’s under the original name of Outer Banks Recreation Association and Duck Woods Golf Course.
Only through the diligent and enthusiastic energies of a small group of local businessmen did the dream of providing a golf course and recreational facilities on the Outer Banks become a reality..

The 250+ acre tract of land, a gift donated by Kitty Hawk Land Company in 1964, in conjunction with a FHA loan, which was granted after the requirement of 300 rural members was met, gave life to the dream.
In May 1967, construction contracts were awarded to build the golf course by famed architect Ellis Maples, by November 1968, Duck Woods Golf Course celebrated with a dedication ceremony, and June 8, 1969 play began..

In 1986, the association with the FHA was severed thereby allowing for the rewriting of the by-laws, changing some Articles of Incorporation, and a new name.
By 1988, the Board of Directors presented and the membership accepted revised by-laws and the new name.
