I consider myself an experimenter, therefore choose to express myself with various media, styles, and subjects.

In the beginning I worked with graphite, charcoal, conte and ink.
For years, realism was my style of choice.
Because of my love of nature, I enjoy going out on location--in the city or country--sketching spring through fall.
During the colder months I work in my studio from photos and sketches..

While taking weekly classes with a local artist for several years I progressed to studying oil, acrylic and water color, concentrating on composition, design and color.
During this time I also attended 3-5 day workshops with well known national artists, mostly exploring watercolor in various techniques.
I attended classes in Halsey, NE, worked with local artists...growing and learning from all.
I also attended classes in art history, design and drawing, at the University of Nebraska in Omaha as well as taking graphic arts at Metro Tech Community college in Omaha.

I also became interested in paper making, taking classes at the old Bemis facility in Omaha as well as at the University of Omaha.
Linters and recycled papers go into making paper along with incorporating natural materials such as rhubarb, iris, daffodil, corn husk, to name but a few.
I’d make paper on my driveway spring and summer then used my paper to create both 3D pieces such as bowls and vessels and collage.
While working with paper I most generally work intuitively.

I soon discovered masks after attending an exhibit in Chicago, IL.
I purchased their book, and others and I was on my way to discover that it was a very spiritual experience.
I’ve made approximately 36 masks each revealing a different aspect of my personality.
I use recycled materials on purchased paper forms or make a form of my face with plaster impregnated tape.
I never have a preconceived idea of what to do, it’s an intuitive process, each mask has made itself, I merely am the physical vehicle.
I’ve had the privilege to facilitate many classes to all age groups, to private individuals, small groups, organizations, churches, retreats, Jewish Community Center as an inter-generational class, Methodist Hospital Healing through the Arts program and the Army National Guard to name a few..

Lately I’ve become interested in encaustic and cold wax which is still very much a learning process.
Another learning process is the use of acrylic it is a medium of interest, one can work layer upon layer, theres no end to it’s possibility.
I’ve become interested in exploring abstract painting.
I seem to be expressing and creating more and more intuitively, which at times can be quite exciting and others not so much.
I find it a difficult discipline, I’d much rather look at something and paint what I see.

My studio is above our garage, I can leave all my materials out, it’s close and I can go there as frequently as I want....it’s my “Happy Place”.
A place where I can tune the rest of the world out, play classical music as loudly as I like without bothering anyone, hopefully..
