Detailed description is 햇빛 밝은 동쪽나라, 동국대학교는 1906년 풍전등화와 같은 나라의 위기를 구하고자 불교선각자들에 의해 설립된 민족 사학입니다.
동국대학교(東國大學校)는 1906년 개교한 사립 4년제 종합대학교이다.
대한제국 시기 황실의 안녕을 기원하고 전국의 사찰을 총괄하기 위해 창건되었던 원흥사(元興寺)가 1904년 사사관리서의 폐지에 따라 기능을 잃자, 1906년 불교연구회(佛敎硏究會)가 주체가 되어 설립한 '명진학교'(明進學校)로 개교하였습니다.
1940년 혜화전문으로 개칭하고 불교과와 흥아과를 설치했습니다.
1946년에는 문교부 인가를 받아 동국대학으로 교명을 변경하였고 문학부를 신설했습니다.1947년 대학본부를 명륜동에서 중구 필동으로 이전하고 1953년 종합대학으로 승격됐습니다.
동시에 대학원이 설치되었습니다.
1979년 경주캠퍼스를 개교했습니다.
경기도 일산, 분당, 경상북도 경주 등에 양한방 대학부속병원을 운영하고 있으며, 서울특별시 중구와 경기도 고양시 일산동구, 경상북도 경주시 석장동에 캠퍼스를 운영하고 있습니다.
